The Chief of Army Staff, Nigerian Army Lt. General Tukur Yusufu Buratai has expressed his concern about what he viewed as undue publicity given to the erstwhile Boko Haram terrorist group by a few people, further boosting the image of the criminal group.
this was contained in a press statement signed and made available to Our Nigeria by the Acting Director Army Public Relation, Colonel Musa Sagir, said the Chief of Army Staff made this observation in Maiduguri, said that it was criminal to support or praise murderers, bandits and armed robbers.
The Chief of Staff accused the group of acting only for their personal gain and thus not deserving of praise. He also noted that the criminals no longer championed any cause other than a quest for materialism as manifested in murder and terror on defenceless persons
He admonished peace-loving Nigerians for ascribing names other than that which befits such criminals as it was tantamount to idolizing them.
Unfortunately, he noted that many Nigerians are not aware that giving prominence to their criminal activities through sensational headlines and fake news in the media could also amount to tacit support to terrorism which violates the Terrorism Prevention Act 2011.
He called on Nigerians to rally around the Nigerian troops as they fight these criminals as it would act as a morale booster which would be highly appreciated. He added that the troops have been enjoined to henceforth go all out to deal decisively with these criminals.
