Arrangements have been completed for the former Minister of women Affairs and Social Development Sen. Aisha Alhassan to return to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Alhassan was the gubernatorial flag bearer of United Democratic Party (UDP) in the 2019 elections, the party she joined in the eve of the polls after she was denied the ticket in All Progressives Congress (APC).

Briefing newsmen on Sunday shortly after a stakeholders meeting held at Unity Hall in Jalingo, Sen. Aisha said that majority of her supporters across all political parties from the 168 wards of Taraba state has encouraged her to shift her base from UDP to the PDP.

She explained that the stakeholders meeting which lasted up midnight on Saturday, drew participants from all those who contested for various political offices under the platform of the UDP, Party Executive members from the unit, ward to state levels and other respected elders.

Similarly, Alhassan revealed that more than 80 per cent of respondents in an opinion poll conducted by a five man committee headed by Alhaji Abdulmumini Vaki, a former PDP Chairman in the state, covered the 16 LGAs of the state suggested that she should shift to the PDP.

However, She said based on the outcome of the opinion polls she has no option than to go by the decision of majority members of UDP.

According to the former Minister, She cannot go against the decision of the popular opinions of her supporters, adding that she was glad that the committee did not suggest the APC as an option.

A copy of a communiqué issued at the end of the stakeholders meeting, which made available to Radio Nigeria, recommended that two committees be set up immediately to fast track the decamping process.

The which was signed by the state UDP Chairman, Alhaji Hassan Chul reads that:

The first committee is to visit the National leadership of the UDP in Abuja to express the appreciation of supporters of the former minister for providing her the platform to run for the 2019 governorship election.

Also, the second committee is to arrange a meeting with PDP leadership in Taraba to work out modalities for the former minister’s return to the PDP.

Recalled that, Sen. Aisha Alhassan contested and won the election for the senatorial seat of Taraba North in 2011 before defecting to APC under which she contested for governor in 2015 as well as UDP in 2019 general elections.
