The Commandant of the Nigerian Defense Academy, Major General Jamil Sarham will on Friday, 20 December, be conferred with a meritorious award.
The award which is known as the Colin Powell’s Meritorious Award for Soldiering (CPMAS) will be conferred on General Sarham because of his professionalism, gallantry, patriotism and absolute loyalty to his superiors.
The Colin Powell’s Meritorious Award for Soldiering is a prestigious award of recognition given to examplary officers who displayed patriotism, gallantry and excellence in the discharge of their duties.
The Award was first concieved in 2014 and some of the past recipients include Major General Lucky Irabor (CPMAS, 2017) and Lt. General T.Y Buratai ( CPMAS of the Decade, 2018).
The award consists of a certificate, crystal glass and a cash prize.
General Sarham was nominated for the award by a group of civil societies, officers and men of the the 7th Division, Nigerian Army and the media.
“The way and manner Maj-General Sarham managed the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army during his tenure as GOC deserves commendation. The entire South-South is now relatively calm and peaceful. I think this is not something that we should take for granted,” said Dr. Abubakar Mohammed, publisher of the Northeast Star and OurNigeria news magazine.
General Sarham and a few others will be conferred with the award next week Friday at the Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.
