A team of experts from the Republic of China on Thursday arrived Jalingo, Taraba state capital for site inspection for Mambilla Hydro Power project.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Nigerian government and Republic of China last year by President Muhammadu Buhari towards the end of his first tenure.
$5.7 million dollars was approved by President Buhari at one of the then Federal Executive Council meetings held at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
Mambilla hydro power project is located at the Mambilla plateau, Sardauna local government area of Taraba state.
During a courtesy visit to Governor Darius Ishaku at Government House Jalingo, one of the Chinese team members, Mr Gan Nyon Zee said that the team was in the state to inspect the site for the project.
Zee, who explained that Syna-Hydro and CGGC were the two major power construction companies in the state for the inspection, solicited the support of the state government and people of the state for successful assignment on the project site.
“We are here to inform you that we are in Taraba state to start inspection work at the Mambila hydro power project site in line with the agreement by Nigerian government and China,”Zee said.
In his part, Governor Darius Ishaku described their coming as long awaited as people of the state were anxious to see the commencement of the project, which was conceived about 40 years ago.
The governor who confirmed that he was informed on their coming by the Federal Ministry of works, power and housing, pleaded for adequate security and other necessary arrangements to enable them succeed in their assignment.
“When you get to Mambila, you are going to trek with legs and use motorcycles to the site, there is no road yet,” Ishaku told the team.
The Chinese team was scheduled to move to the Mambilla Plateau on Friday, while the remaining members will fly into Jalingo from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
