Muslims have been advised to imbibe the habit of tree planting in their communities for the benefit of humanity.
An Islamic scholar and a lecturer in Taraba State University, Dr. Abdullahi Yusuf gave the advise during a seminar organized by the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FAMWAN), Taraba State chapter.
The seminar with the topic” The Importance of Tree Planting” was held at the state secretariat of Muslim Council of Nigeria in Jalingo, the state capital.
Dr. Abdullahi Yusuf who was the guest speaker at the occasion said, the significant of tree planting cannot be overemphasized as it has great rewards from the Almighty Allah because of its benefit to not only human beings but even animals.
He also called on women to engage in farming, saying it will provide them with the opportunity to benefit from government’s programs on agriculture.
In a remark, Ameera, Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria FOMWAN, Taraba State, Hajiya Halimatu Hamman Julde said the seminar was aimed at creating awareness on the need for people not only women to imbibe the habit of planting trees for the benefit of the society.
She explained that it was also aimed at training the participants on tree planting, so that they will step it down to the grassroots.
Hamman Julde disclosed that they have bought variety of trees for distribution to chairpersons and secretaries of the association at the local government level across the sixteen local government areas of the state.
She however called on participants to ensure watering of the trees when planted as well as encourage their husbands to also plant trees as it has lots of rewards from Almighty Allah.
