Taraba State House of Assembly has inaugurated 20 special and standing committees, with a call on members to work diligently to ensure check and balances in government.
Inaugurating the committees in Jalingo, Speaker of the Assembly, Peter Abel Diah who was represented by his Deputy, Mr. Danladi Gwampo, said that the duty of the standing committees was to ensure oversight to government’s agencies within their jurisdictions.
Diah, commended Governor Darius Ishaku for providing a harmonious working relationship with the three arms of government in the state.
He urged members of the committees to take the opportunity as means of ensuring good governance and not as a platform for witchunt.
Earlier, Clark of the House, Mr. Orngu Mela, appealed to Ministries, Departments and Agencies to exhibit rubost partnership with the committees, pointed out that the Constitution of committees was part of the tradition to conduct it’s mandate with efficiency.
Mela listed some of the standing committees to comprise Education’ Science and Technology, Finance and Appropriation, Works and Housing, as well as Agriculture and Natural Resources, among others.
Responding on behalf of the committees Chairmen, member representing Kurmi, Mr. Anderifun Habila promised to carry out their responsibilities according the constitution without any witchunt.
